We discovered Mike’s photo gallery when researching local places of interest, and we think they have added a special dimension to our site. Here’s a few words from Mike about himself:
I moved to France in 2001 from the USA and married Frédérique, who is originally from Côte d'Or - Frédérique was finishing her doctoral thesis in Lyon at the time, so we lived there for a few years.
As a photographer I feel quite fortunate to live in such a beautiful region of France, and I concentrate my efforts on photographing in and around the department of Côte d'Or since that's where we live. There's never a shortage of great subjects to photograph at any time of year whether it's the intense, saturated colors of autumn along the Canal de Bourgogne or the vineyards along the Route des Grandes Crus, the marvelous architecture of the many châteaux and churches in winter, or the intense yellow mustard (or colza) against a backdrop of vibrant green hills and clear blue sky in springtime. It's not uncommon for me to simply drive or bike around Côte d'Or with no specific destination in mind, just out searching for new subjects to photograph off the beaten track. It's in this way that I'm often rewarded with hidden treasures such as an isolated village or unique vantage point of which there are still many in Burgundy waiting to be discovered.
